Data Deletion

Last updated: July 11, 2026

You can delete your Miaru account and personal data at any time. This page explains what gets deleted, what we may have to keep (and why), and how to make the request.

1. Your Right to Delete Your Data

You are in control of your personal information. Every Miaru learner, anywhere in the world, can ask us to delete their account and the personal data we have collected about them at any time — you do not need to give a reason, and deleting your data is free.

This page explains what deletion covers, what we may need to keep, and exactly how to make the request. It supplements our Privacy Policy (miaru.co/privacy), which describes everything we collect and why.

2. What Gets Deleted

When we process a deletion request, we remove:

  • Your account and profile — your email address, display name, username (handle), and onboarding answers (what you want to learn, your goals and interests).
  • Your learning activity — lesson progress, answers and scores, experience points (XP), streaks, and spaced-repetition review schedules.
  • Your settings and preferences, such as your language choice.
  • Issue reports you submitted from inside the app.
  • Our reference to you at our payment processor (your Stripe customer link), after any legally required billing records are accounted for (see Section 3).
  • The pseudonymous analytics identifiers tied to your account, and we stop all analytics collection for you immediately.

3. What May Be Retained

In limited cases we keep some information after deleting your account, and only for as long as the reason applies:

  • Billing and tax records we are legally required to retain — payments are processed by Stripe, and invoices/transaction records follow the retention rules that apply to them.
  • Information needed to resolve disputes, enforce our Terms of Service, or investigate fraud or misuse of the Service.
  • Aggregated or anonymized information that can no longer be traced back to you (for example, overall lesson completion rates).

4. How to Request Deletion

Email privacy@miaru.co with the subject line “Data Deletion Request”, sent from the email address on your Miaru account. That address is how we verify the request is really yours; if you can no longer access it, tell us in the request and we will ask for additional verification instead.

If you have an active Miaru Plus subscription, you can cancel it first from the billing section of the app (which opens Stripe's customer portal) — or just say so in your request and we will cancel it as part of the deletion, so you are not charged again.

5. Processing Time

We acknowledge deletion requests within five (5) business days and complete them within thirty (30) days. If we need more information to verify your identity, we will contact you at the address you wrote from, and the clock starts once the request is verified.

6. Questions

Anything unclear, or a request that does not fit the steps above? Email privacy@miaru.co — a real human reads it. For the full picture of what we collect and how we use it, see our Privacy Policy at miaru.co/privacy.
