Questions
English, questions answered
What kind of English does Miaru teach?
Everyday American English, set in the USA: the diner, the subway, the grocery store, the doctor's office and a job interview. You learn what people really say, like “For here or to go?”
Why can't I find the English course in the app?
The app hides the course for the language it's set to, because nobody learns English in English. Set the app to the language you speak best (it speaks 35), and the English course appears.
Can I learn English on my own as a beginner?
Yes. The course starts at hello and builds up one real situation at a time: numbers, money, the café, the doctor's office, the job hunt. Every explanation is in your language, so you can learn at your own pace.
How can I practice speaking English?
Every lesson ends with a scene where you play your side of the conversation, and every word and sentence has audio you can replay and slow down. Say your lines out loud as you go.
Which English phrases will I learn first?
Hello, good morning and thanks, then the lifesavers: “I don't understand”, “Could you say that again?” and “Could you speak slowly?” Next come numbers, prices and your first café order: “Can I get a latte?”
How many lessons are in the English course?
463 lessons in 114 units, from your first hello to a job interview and a wedding.
Does Miaru teach English grammar?
Yes, in small doses. A short note explains a pattern right when a scene needs it, and then the practice has you use it.
How long does it take to learn English?
It depends on your goal and your time. In Miaru you set a daily goal of 5 to 20 minutes, and 463 lessons take you from hello to a job interview, one short lesson at a time.
Is it American or British English?
American. The course is set in the USA and uses American spelling and words: color, fall, the check, to go.
Can I learn English from my own language?
Yes. The English course is taught in 34 languages, including Español, Português, Français, 中文, 日本語, 한국어, हिन्दी, Tiếng Việt and Türkçe.
